Long Time No Post!

Some might think we have abandoned our blog... Nope. We're still here. Busy, but here.

Here's the re-cap of what's been going on around here...

Nell's parents got married in September. Nell had her pictures made... very pretty Nell. (Pictures by Medina Photography)

While the parental unit went on their honeymoon, Nell attended camp at Auntie Mary's House. She made friends, but prefers to be an only child.

Jasper came into rescue in early October. He was a stray and lived on the streets. He some how lost his eye, so we almost called him "One eyed Jack"... but we kept Jasper's name. He went to a LOVELY couple in Maryland. When the new owners came to pick up Jasper, he was scooped up off the ground and his paws never touched the floor after that. You know he's being spoiled!

Right after Jasper left, Bandit came to stay with us for a weekend. He is a former BT Rescue alumni. Very shy and independent guy.

After Bandit left, Frankie came into rescue... He was a BIG boy! He would make an awesome agility runner!
And after Frankie got adopted to a VERY nice couple up in Maryland, Nell got a new sweater handmade by her mommie. Doesn't she look great?

And now, we're getting ready for Christmas...

Where did 2008 go?
Nell and I hope everyone had a wonderful 2008 and looking forward to more adventure in 2009!

Psssttt... Hey, it's me... Nell. Mom's been too lazy to update this site. I swear... Do I have to do everything? It's been a hectic few months in our lives. Mom and dad's getting married in 11 days... mom keeps sending me to camp because she and soon to be dad has to go out of town... Riley, foster dog is finally out of my life... but I fear she will be sending me to camp again. *sigh* I do like camp tho... I get to beat up my previous foster minion Oscar. He was the one that was found in Maryland's landfill. Oscar's my bud.

My lovely auntie got me this... How crazy do I look? Why do people think we have to be dressed up? We have fur... we like to be na-ked...

Auntie... just wait until the baby arrives. Mommy's going to send you some awesome costumes for your baby. hehehe

Whale Watching & Lobster Bake

Early Saturday morning, we headed out for the whale watching tour. It was cloudy and cold. But we weathered the cold and bundled up.

I have videos of the whales... but I can't figure out how to get it on here.... We saw several whales coming up for air. It was amazing!

Coming back into Bar Harbor...

Margaret Todd... I wanted to go on this for sunset cruise... but we couldn't fit it into our schedule.

After the whale watching tour, we grabbed lunch at Rupununi Restaurant. SO had lobster roll and I had the crab quesadillas. Very good lunch. After we walked around Bar Harbor and shopped, we returned to the hotel to let Nell enjoy some fresh air.

Then came time for the lobster bake. Not only did we have lobster, we enjoyed some mussels. OMG... I'd go back in a heart beat!

We all got together for the first gathering. Dinner at Jack Russell's. Their food was DELISH! I had their filet and SO had the crab cakes. I tried SO's crab cakes... OMG! They were out of this world! Nell managed to snarl at almost all the dogs, but hey, she didn't bite.

Woof!Fest 2008

Nell, SO, and I headed up to Bar Harbor, ME for the Woof!Fest 2008 (gathering of Boston Terrier lovers) for the weekend. It was awesome to meet other boston terrier owners. I know... some of you will think I'm crazy for taking a trip up to Maine to meet people from the web, but when else can I enjoy lobster bake and whale watching? When opportunities knock, I go.

To save some money, we flew into Portland, ME instead of Bangore, ME. Once we landed, I made my SO take me to the Portland Lobster Co. for lunch. Mmmm... lobster roll.

Nell was stuck under the table.... poor girl. What am I? A second class citizen?

To make it up to Nell, we walked into Fetch, an awesome pet store to get Nell a little treat.

Our Annual Maryland BT Specialty

We had a great turn out at our 2008 Boston Terrier Club of Maryland's Black-Eyed Susan Specialty. Over 80 dogs were entered, and we even met some people from the famous Woofboard! The weather was wonderful! Our rescue table made some money from our merchandise table. Thanks for everyone who attended... and for those of you who didn't... we hope you make it next year!

I spend my day browsing Woofboard and low and behold, I noticed a dog that looked exactly like Nell (down to her left front white paw)... I thought maybe I had posted her pictures long time ago and I just forgot about it. But when I looked at the user id and post date, it was posted that day. It turns out, pictured boston's name is Jack. Jack and Nell comes from Maryland, but Jack is few years younger. There MAY be a possibility that they are related... but I do not have all the information about Nell, but I do have her breeder's name, so when I can get my act together, I'd like to get in contact with him. So you tell me... do they look like twins?

Nell's been chillin on the couch... as usual. It's been busy couple of months... planning the wedding, selling my condo, trying to buying a townhouse, dealing with bank owned properties... you know... life just keeps getting in the way. :-) Anyway, it's almost spring in the DC area. Cherry blossoms are in full bloom. Nell has been looking forward to sun bathing.

It seems I have neglected Nell's blog... so... Let us catch you up in what's going on in Nell's world. Marty, the foster dog, is still with us. He made the Thanksgiving trip down to North Carolina with us. We were worried about his "hyper" behavior, but he did pretty well. The only thing he destroyed was Nell's clothe crate... grrr... bad dog!

While Nell posed with the statue, Marty is running wild outside... ahhhh freedom! Marty enjoyed running without his leash. His favorite hobby... fetch and running.

Nothing much have been going on. We're getting ready for Christmas. They had a picture date with Santa last weekend. We should get the picture back on the 15th, so I'll post the picture once we receive the pic.

We're looking forward to going back to practicing Rally next winter. Nell will be competing for her Advanced title in the spring.

Here is our newest foster. His name is Marty and he was an owner surrender. He is 22 lbs of love and snuggle. I have to say, he is the best foster ev-ah! He's house trained and loves to retrive stuffed animal. He knows give me 5, high 5, sit, and learning down right now. He's a pretty quick learner. He won't be in rescue too much longer. Yeay for Marty!

A weekend trip to St. Michaels and Easton

For our 4th anniversary, we decided we would take a little weekend trip to St. Micahels and stay over night in Easton, MD. It was humid and hot... and probably should have asked a friends to watch Nell, but she came and braved the weather. Nell did awesome and even let some people pet her. My boyfriend surprised me by proposing to me at the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum. We're getting married. Nell will now have a mom and a dad!

Everyone at the restaurant loved Nell. Everyone referred to Nell as "the smiling dog".

Christmas in July presents

The Boston Terrier online community I belong to had "Christmas in July" event. Nell received her present from Max and Karla in Texas. Of course, Nell shared her loot with Yoshi, our house guest. But after watching Yoshi with the toys, Nell got VERY nervous...

After we finished up in Fishersville, VA, we made our way to our hotel in Harrisonburg. Since Nell did so well, she received her treat... an empty soda bottle.

Today was the Harrisonburg show. The Rally trial was being held in a barn, so Nell felt she had to smell everything. We lost some points for "tightenting" the leash. We scored 92 and came in 4th place. With three qualifying rally-o scores, Nell received her Rally Novice title!!!!

Nell and I started our AKC dog show round yesterday in Fishersville, VA. We left at 7:30 AM and thought we were doing really well on time... until we saw the state tropper shutting down I-66.

We packed up our stuff on Friday moring at 4am and headed down to Mooresville, NC for our weekend visit with 'da family. 6 hours later, we were at the lake, relaxing. Poor Nell... she was our source of entertainment.

We had our first AKC Rally competition today at the Mattaponai Kennel Club Nell competed in the Rally-O Novice A class and she did wonderfully. She scored 90 out of 100! When we first got to the ring, while the Advanced class was still carrying on, I tested out her "sit" and "down"... well... she looked at me like I was telling her to cook my breakfast. She gave me the blank stare... more like, "Show me the treats first". After I worked with her and gave her TONS of treats, she remembered how to "sit" and "down".

Our first station was "Halt, sit, down, walk around dog". Of course, I was nervous and Nell knew everyone was watching, so she decided, instead of sitting, she just decided to lay down "frog style"... all spread out on the ground. Nell, that cost us -5 points! Everything else went great. We have -2 points for tight leash walk and -3 points for something we couldn't read on the judge sheet. Perhaps I was too far away from the station.

Overall, our first competition was really fun and perhaps, I will spend some weekends going to other competitions so I can at least get her jumped up to the next class. :-)

It's been awhile

I've abandoned Nell's blog for awhile due to busy schedule, but we're back! To recap, Nell had two weeks vacation at Aunt Mary's while we were in Japan/Singapore/Bintan Island. We had a great time, but we terribly missed Nell. She was also glad we came back safely, as her "only child" syndrome was over ruled by Aunt Mary's boston terriers.

We're now back to our routine schedule. Nell will be participating in her first AKC Rally-O trial this Saturday!

I haven't beaded in a LONG time... I went to the bead show in February. All the beads that I bought from there are still in my bag. BUT, since our Black-Eyed Susan Specialty is coming up, I figured I'll go ahead and make some earrings and other cool stuff and donate it to the rescue fund. Would you wear that if you got one?

We had a chance to take advantage of the warmer weather on Saturday and go check out the St. Patrick's Parade in Old Town, VA. Animal Welfare League of Alexandria was there before the parade to do a fun dog show. The also marched in the parade. Old Town is such a dog friendly town. I love it! Accidental Amputation of Mr. Frog

For Christmas, I bought Mr. Frog for Nell. She had a smaller version of Mr. Frog and I figured she'd enjoy carrying around a bigger one. Fast forward to today... Mr Cricket LOVES all of Nell's stuffed animals. It would be OK, except for the fact Cricket likes to perform surgery on these toys. We would find random hand and feet left on the carpet.

Well, today was another accidental amputation...

We got our first snow yesterday. None of us were ready. No matter how much we cranked up the heat, it just seemed like both of the bostons were freezing. So, I had to put their sweaters on!

We have a sad news to report tonight. Socrates has crossed the bridge. His foster mom said that when she returned from work on Friday, he was just not himself. He finally let his foster mom know that he was ready to make his last journey. Rest in peace you sweet boy!

Well, my BF and I am thinking about going to Japan in the spring. We were looking at the temporary itenerary that the travel agent sent us... Nell being the smart girl she is... she started pouting since she will be staying with someone while we are away. Can you tell she's already dissatisfied?

On the side note, CONGRATULATIONS to Appalachia State University football team for winning the NCAA Division 1 National Championship two years in a row! We got together with some of the alumni in Reston, VA restaurant to watch the game. It was an awesome game!

I had to run into Target to buy one thing... and I walked out with majority of things for Nell. Off course, it's not necessity items for Nell... it's all LUXURY items for Nell... granted they were all $2.50... The canine shirt saids it all... PAMPERED... Nell may not think so... but I do.

Boys are settling in just fine. Actually, they'll be leaving for their permanent foster home tomorrow. I'm little sad that they will be leaving, but I know they'll be much happier with the yard and no stairs. :-) Nell will be happy to have her own place again.

Well, little late, but still about 38 minutes left. I hope everyone got yummy treats. Leave some kibbles for Nell! Nell's spending her week at my BF's house since I brought home two old guys... Nell actually did really well with them, but I was actually having hard time grabbing the concept of how to feed and walk three dogs at a time. :-)

Pretty soon, it'll be Thangsiving and Christmas...

Two guys came into rescue today. Their owner passed away and for the past few weeks, they've lived outside, keeping each other company. They are littermates and have lived their past 11 years with each other. They are VERY good dogs. They are Socrates and Plouto. They go crazy when there's a ball around... so I had to take them up.
Nell wants to say HI~! She's still hanging out... enjoying her Princess status. She's not quite sure what to think of these guys. At least they haven't attempted to jump up on the couch... yet being the key word.

Me or the TV?

My lovely BF won this TV at a company event last night. After 6 years of employment, he finally won something BIG. His company (my previous company) is very generous and fun. They had a casino night and this was the grand prize. Nell was not quite sure... I'm sure she hoped that new tv will give her a cookie. No such luck...

Nell doesn't beg like normal dogs. I think she uses guilt. She lets her lower lips hang and stares at us when we eat. Of course, if we eat at our kitchen table, we wouldn't have this issue, but since we always end up eating on the couch... we deserve it. Nell, you know you will NEVER go hungry as long as you live under my roof.

It's nice having a model that doesn't talk back... I've found a new craft project and Nell of course is my model. For BTC of MD fundraiser idea, we've been toying with canine jewelry... what do you think? It's little heavy, but we'll have to play around with it. I think this necklace is little too much for a canine, but Nell is not an ordinary canine... she loves jewelry!

Congratulations to Patches! She was adopted out tonight! Nell got her freedom back and laying on the snuggle ball without being defensive or jumpy. Patches, it was nice fostering you and I hope you learned your lesson. Don't start a fight with a bigger dog. 5 staples in your leg should have made you learn the lesson... but somehow, I don't think it'll stop you. Crazy girl!

Meet Star... She's our newest foster. She's being fostered for few days before getting adopted out to the new family on Saturday. She's VERY friendly... and VERY CUTE! Over the past month, we've had a lot of bostons come through out foster system... and it shows... we got our vet bills. :-( We need to do some SERIOUS fundraisers... so if you have any good ideas... PLEASE share.

Nell is patiently waiting to be the only child again. I've decided after Patches gets adopted out, I will hold off on rescuing until Nell feels confident that she can once again share her house with foster guests.

We had a really bad dog fight break out (Nell vs. Patches) last week, and although Patches started the fight, Nell finished it with putting her canine teeth marks on Patches ears, stomach, neck, and paws. Patches ended up with two staples in her leg. Nell wasn't kidding around. Nell has been walking on egg shells since and I feel I need to build back her confidence. I'm planning to take her to Ralley-O classes and working on obedience tricks more at home. Hopefully, by end of fall, she'll be ready. I will not be taking in any more dominant females. I know my limit. Also learned Nell's tolerance. It's ZERO when it comes to dominant bitches. As my BF would say... "Two bitches... what did I do to deserve this???" hahahah

La casa de Nell has been accepting visitors like crazy the past few weeks. Meet Ms. Patches. She had to spend the last week in the kennel since we didn't have any foster home for her. Poor thing... she's sooo sweet but she has been questioning Nell's alpha roles... We go to the vet for a check up tomorrow night. She is sooo skinny. I just looked through her records and it said that she used to weigh 23 lbs... IMPOSSIBLE!!!! She'll be lucky if she weighs 13 lbs. We shall see tomorrow.

In the rescue news... Daisy is back. Unfortunately, the new family did not work out for Daisy. Spread the word... We need good homes for Daisy... she's young, hyper, rude, and in need of disciplin, but overall, she is a GOOD DOG!

Daisy is in need of dental work if she was actually a human... Underbite is so bad that majority of the time, her lower teeth are showing. I've come to love the underbite. Everytime she wants attention, instead of pouting, she's got the "elvis" look going on.

Everyone please wish Daisy luck! She may be adopted this Saturday. We are doing a home check, and we gave them the option of adopting her that day. If it doesn't work out, there are other people who are on the waiting list for her. She's a wonderful dog...

For the past month, I've had three foster dogs (Tucker, Dobby, and Daisy). Nell has been patient, but not totally welcomed them into the home. Daisy is our newest foster, and she is also the first female dog to be fostered in our home. Nell is very insecure... so any other female dog in the house makes her go crazy... but she has been doing VERY well with Daisy. Perhaps she's gaining her confidance as an alpha dog... or letting down her guard... who knows. But I do see her sad eyes sometimes... "mommy... when am I going to be the only child again?"

Dobby is my newest foster. He was an owner surrender. He was adopted out from our rescue few years ago, but had to come back because of owner's injuries. He is a very sweet boy, but very hyper and some what shy. He has a vet appointment on Monday. Hopefully everything will be ok. I'll start looking for a new home for Dobby next week.

Once again, Nell is alone at my house. Tucker left last Wednesday to a new home for a trial period. I think Nell misses Tucker. :-( She has been getting all of the attention since Tucker left, but I catch her looking for him here and there. Walks has been quicker (no more marking every single bush) and I'm once again getting used to just having Nell as well.

I've bought marrow bones for Nell and Tucker awhile back... Unfortunately, although there are two bones, they each want the one they don't have... So for awhile, they'll chew on their own bone, but then, one gets distracted, and the other goes for the different bone... So this starts the "bity face, leg, haulk, and everything is fair game". I got these two great action shots of Nell beating up Tucker. Shhhh... don't let the ASPCA know!

Here's Tucker... It's almost been a week since he had his surgery. He is currently under Crate-Arrest... He is miserable in the crate, but I know this is for his best. Poor thing... He seems like he is recovering well... considering he got his neuter AND LP surgery done on the same day. I think he misses being able to play bitey-face with Nell. I wanted to let everyone know that he is doing well and recovering super fast!

We had a wonderful time down in Mooresville, NC this past weekend. The weather was WONDERFUL and we all had a blast. This was the first time Nell was able to enjoy the lake... as the previous visits were all during the winter. She did GREAT... she was off leash most of the time, and never really left our side (perhaps it was her being paranoid that we would leave her at the lake...). She enjoyed kayaking, playing with the sand, swimming and the boat ride. She wasn't keen on the boat ride, but I think she enjoyed the kayak. She also got to visit my BF's grandmother... she just thinks Nell is the quietest dog ever! Sitting with granny was the best!

Also, Nell passed her CGC (Canine Good Citizen) test tonight! She is now certified!!! Great job Nell! We are sooo proud of you!!!! I was little nervous since she was stuck in the car for 6 hours before the test. She's definitely a trooper!

Tucker and nell have been going at it with eachother... We have found out Tucker is a "tease" and Nell is a jeolous girl. Anything Tucker has, she must have... and anything Tucker has, he must tease Nell with it. ughh... the constant bitey face is driving me crazy and I'm sure my neighbor is about to report me to the condo association... Take a look at the video... It's super dark... but you'll get the picture of constant bickering between the two.

Meet Tucker... I dropped Carlos off at his new home yesterday, and Tucker was surrendered to BTCMD-Rescue last night. He's a sweet un-neutered male, about 10lbs, 9 months old... Used to be named "Rascal" but decided Tucker will fit him just fine. He's not housetrained, so he's been peeing and marking... ughhh... I'll be working on that with him next few weeks. He didn't have rabies shot, so that is our first priority, then he goes in for his neuter on the 26th. Nell is very active with Tucker... mainly trying to tell him Nell's the boss, only for him to ignore. I doubt it'll take long for him to get adopted out.

Carlos is settling in very well. Nell has gotten over her fear/defensiveness with him and now are at least tolerating each other. Carlos' submissiveness has improved quite a bit and his anxiety has almost disappeared thanks to the herbal powder recommended by Terry at PetSage.

I'm happy to report Carlos will be going to a new home on Friday. It was a short stay, but we enjoyed having Carlos at our home.

Everyone, I'd like you to meet Carlos. He is 1 year old (Cinco de Mayo boy) and he just came into the Boston Terrier Club of Maryland Rescue system yesterday. He's a very very sweet boy, little hyper, but overall, very well behaved. He does have issues we need to work on, but hopefully, he'll be adopted out soon.

Nell has not become friends with Carlos just yet. She is very defensive when he is around, but that is to be expected. She is a princess afterall... she can't have just anybody become her friend.

My parents are in town from Japan... This is the first time they met Nell. They love her. They can't believe how well behaved she is and how she never barks. My BF and I was mean to Nell and sounded the fire alarm just to show my parents, yes, she does bark. Nell loves my dad... but is scared of my mom... my mom thinks her telling Nell to get off the bed when she first got to my condo caused Nell to not like her from the beginning... It's funny to see when my dad calls Nell, she'll go to him, but even with treats in my mom's hand, Nell is very hesitant and once she gets the food from her, she'll bolt from my mom. Poor mom... she was sooo looking forward to spending some quality time with her grand-fur-by. Nell did let my mom scratch her tummy on the couch... doesn't she look very relaxed?

Boston Terrier Club of Maryland's Rescue Committee needs your help! We just took in two boston terriers that are heavy hitters on our vet fund. Please be kind and donate to the rescue fund!!

Casey is 4 years old and came to us through the Humane Society as a stray. Apparently he'd been lost and on his own for sometime because he was terribly skinny and was in rough shape! On top of that, this poor boy had been on his own and only able to see shadows since he has juvenile cataracts in both his eyes.

"Buster" is an adorable 4 month old puppy who came into rescue in urgent need of surgery. He fractured his elbow playing with an Akita puppy. His previous owner said it was cheaper to kill Buster and buy a new puppy.

Owner has too much time on her hand...

Well, not really, but we had a great time at the Boston Terrier Club of Maryland's 66th annual Blackeyed Susan Specialty. Nell even had the chance to hop on the winner box, participate in the rescue parade and receiving a huge ribbon, and meeting some champion boston terriers.

We did find out Nell is deathly afraid of horses... Nemesis #5. :-)

Nell is once again our only child. Petey was adopted Saturday morning to a wonderful person. I hope to see him next month at the Westminster, MD show. Meanwhile, Nell has been keeping busy at the monthly meetup and obedience class. I hope to have Nell CGC certified by end of May. She does get scared easily, so we may have to repeat the obedience class again. We shall see. Nell's enjoying our undivided attention and not worrying about anyone jumping up on the couch while she takes her 100th nap of the day.

Nell and Petey are enjoying the cold winter nights on the couch, snoozing on the down blanket the my bestfriend gave me for christmas. My BF teased me that every blanket goes to the dogs, but I reassured him that the blue blanket was MINE.... of course, I use the blanket, get up to get a glass of soda... they hijacked it... they look so peaceful that I don't move them. Do you notice they've also taken up pretty much the whole couch? It's a good thing they're cute... because us humans LOVE the couch also!

It's been a week since my last post... I had every intention of posting everyday, but knitting has taken over my life. I feel Nell is developing a complex to my knitting... if only she knew that I just started her sweater project. hahaha. Here are some pics from last weekend's Northern VA BT meetup. My friend came with me and brought her pug. She was not amused... she was attacked and molested... poor Nala. She's so cute none of the BTs could leave her alone. Petey is a donut thief... But somehow, Nell and Petey planned this before it happened. Nell has been eating from a bowl that is on top of a box because of possible acid reflux... well, conveniently, she flipped her bowl today so while I was enjoying my "fat pill", I hear the clink... I walk to her bowl to pick up the kibbles... Nell runs over to my BF to distract him, and low and behold... Petey snatched up my chocolate covered donut. Don't believe the innocent picture everyone... he ate my half of the donut! Bad Petey... Bad!
